Welcome to my Teacher Mamma Blog!

I am Nicole, a former teacher and current stay-at-home mom.  I taught in the same public school in South Florida for nine years before I left to stay at home with my first son.  For seven of those nine years I taught gifted and high achieving fifth grade students.  I have a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Masters in Teaching and Learning.  I am certified to teach Elementary (K-6), English to Speakers of Other Languages, Social Science (6-12), and Gifted.

I was able to initially stay at home with my son for five and a half months because I had twelve weeks of leave combined with summer vacation.  It was an amazing time.  I went back to my classroom that following August.  I had an amazing group of students, but I was overwhelmed.  My husband and I decided that I would take a child care leave for the next school year.  It's now been 3 years since I left teaching and I've had a second child, we've moved, and so much more!

I also teach college classes online every once and a while.  I've been teaching for University of Phoenix since March of 2009.  It's been a great experience to be able to work with adult learners.  It is completely different than working with ten year old kids or a one year old for that matter!

For the past eight years I have also run my own travel agency that specializes in cruises, all-inclusive resorts, and theme park trips.  I am an expert in traveling, especially with a baby/ toddler.  Check out my other blog, focused on travel, here: Sunkissed Adventures.

So if you ever need advice or want to plan a vacation, just let me know!

Who will you read about in my blog?

What I am:
Teacher, I will always teach my son what I know and give him every opportunity to succeed.
Traveler, we love to explore and I love to make it educational and fun!
Chef, okay, not professionally.  But I love to cook and bake!
Mother, to my son Connor and the 225 students that I encountered in the last few years.
Only Child, at times I do suffer form only child syndrome.  I am apologizing in advance!
Reader, I thirst for knowledge.  I read a wide variety of books.

What I am not:
Writer, so don't expect perfect grammar.  I like to write, but in my own frenetic way.  I ramble.  A lot. There is a reason that I only taught writing and fourth grade for two years. ;)
Photographic Pro, yup my pictures may be crooked and blurry at times.  Maybe one day I will be able to afford a nice camera!
